Penny Barber Talks with Captain Jack

Penny: I have been in the industry since 2003.

Maitland Ward Talks with Captain Jack

Maitland has been in the industry for almost a year now and she has taken the industry by storm! She is a gorgeous redhead with a great body. I have been so surprised by the positivity that has come out from people, especially younger people in their 20s and 30s. They’ve really supported me. Women too who tell me that it’s amazing and that I’m really doing something for women and sexuality and you’re breaking down walls. I was blown away from the positivity that I got. Of course, you’re going to get some naysayers and negativity but, for the most part, like with all the press I got in the mainstream, I would say that 98% of it had a positive spin on it. There were shocking headlines but when you got to the meat of the article, they were cheering me on.

CJ: One of the things I love about it is you started in mainstream and moved into adult and now the adult world is becoming more mainstream.

Maitland: That’s what I love. And if I have any part of making it more acceptable to mainstream, I will have done more than my job. That means so much to me and something that I’m passionate about. I do think that porn is going to merge with mainstream and there will be crossovers in the future. I think the younger people have grown up with porn on the internet so it’s not such a taboo thing as opposed to someone in their 50s who are more likely to be more judgmental, especially women. But these 20-year old girls say, ‘Wow, that’s so cool!’ and are much more receptive to it and I think that’s where the world is going. And I’m very excited about that.

CJ: Also with the pandemic, a lot of women are turning on OnlyFans and producing their own content. That’s helping too.

Maitland: It depends on what it is. She has definitely asked for my input. I have written a couple of scenes that should be coming up pretty soon. We did them before the pandemic. She definitely gives me freedom that if I have an idea to give it to her. She’s writing the whole feature herself but will ask for my input.

CJ: What have you learned about yourself sexually since joining porn?

Maitland: Oh my God. I never thought when I was doing my content that I’d be where I am. I thought I was only going to do nude and solo stuff just because I liked being an exhibitionist. But I slowly started thinking, ‘what if I try this?’ With my writing, there were some things that I really wanted to explore about myself and this gave me an opportunity to go down that path a bit. So I started out slow, doing girl/girl stuff, then girl/girl/girl, then I got to the point where I wanted to do stuff with guys and I explored that side of myself in the exhibitionism and the sexual performance. I really loved sexually performing and, from the get-go, I didn’t expect that to come out of me. It was just natural. It literally just comes out of me when I’m performing. I learned how my body responded and what I liked and what turns me on. I just learned a lot about my sexuality and my own body. It’s interesting how different performers bring different aspects out of you. I love people who will challenge me in a scene and really bring me to a new level. I always like to look for people who will just give it back to me and we can have this hot power struggle. I learned a lot mentally about who I am as a sexual person. And I find that every step of the way, how far will I go? I haven’t found the endpoint yet and I don’t think I will for a while. There’s so much to come and I didn’t expect that at first but now it’s very exciting.

CJ: Some fans expressed disappointment after our first interview, what does your husband think of your porn career?

Maitland: He’s extremely proud of me. He was instrumental when I wanted to start doing this. He was the videographer/photographer in the beginning when I was doing my own content. He’s been along for every step of the journey. He as so proud of me the night I won the AVN awards. It meant so much because we have worked so hard on this together. He does a lot of business aspects for me, like financial aspects. He’s super proud of me, couldn’t be prouder.

CJ: Does he watch your scenes?

Maitland: Yes he does. He especially enjoys the girl/girl scenes. (laughs) It’s kind of funny though. I don’t think he necessarily watches it for the ‘oh yeah!’ aspect; he watches it more to watch me perform. I think that’s an interesting thing. He enjoys watching me be sexual and my performance.
