Captain Jack: Tell me about Riley Steele.
Riley Steele: I grew up in San Diego. I lived a pretty normal childhood. I was pretty shy growing up, I was almost a recluse. In high school, I had my little group of girlfriends and we were always getting into trouble together. We always hung out with older kids so I was always ditching school more than going to school. I discovered porn at 15 or 16 so I knew about it at a pretty young age. Then I discovered Digital Playground. I was 17 when I went to the Hustler signing for Pirates 1. That’s when I met Jesse Jane. That’s how I got with Digital Playground. I couldn’t even get into Hustler because you had to be 18. I was so scared, I didn’t think they were going to let me in. CJ: How long ago was that?
Riley: That must have been 2008.
CJ: So right when you turned 18, you called Digital Playground?
Riley: I think I was actually 19 because when I was 18, I was with my boyfriend for a while. He broke up with me and we were together for almost a year so I was almost 19 when I signed with them.
CJ: When did you lose your virginity?
Riley: I lost my virginity when I was 16 and I lost it to one of my friends because I just wanted to lose my virginity. I was a freshman or sophomore and I wanted to fuck this guy, Kyle, who was a senior and he was really experienced. I had no experience so I didn’t want to be a loser and so I asked a friend. It was more of a business decision. I just said, ‘I need you to do this for me!’ (laughs)
CJ: Then did you hook up with that Kyle dude?
Riley: I never did! I was too shy but I had a major crush on him and I wanted to.
CJ: You didn’t hook up with him but what about other guys?
Riley: I’m lucky that I had a friend that took my virginity because I’m just so painfully shy. After that, I think I slept with one person. A friend that I would hook up with occasionally. I would have random hookups but I never had one person that I was fucking all the time. I just did not want to be the last virgin. (laughs)
CJ: How many guys did you sleep with before porn?
Riley: Not many. Probably 4 guys.
CJ: Were you with girls before porn?
Riley: Yes. I was with girls since I was a little girl, since I was a kid growing up. I remember I used to mess around with all my girlfriends in the neighborhood all the time. It was a normal thing for me but with boys I was so scared and shy.
CJ: Even as a little girl, did you go down on another girl?
Riley: We didn’t even know what we were doing so we would just hump each other. We didn’t know how to each other out so we would hump each other just because it felt good. CJ: After you broke up with your boyfriend and you called Digital Playground, you had only been with a few people in your life, that’s a huge jump getting into porn. How much did you think about it?
Riley: In my personal life, I don’t sleep around, I’m not a promiscuous person. I enjoy shooting. I love making porn. I love doing scenes. I love rough, hard sex and I feel safe doing it on set. There’s no one in my personal life that I would feel safe with doing these type of things. I could never just pick up a guy and do anal because I’m just too shy. But I get to do it on set. These things would never happen for me in my personal life so that’s why I do porn.
CJ: So you’re still shy even after all these years?
Riley: Yes, yes! I’m still shy. Definitely. As I’m getting older, I feel like, ‘Am I going to be alone forever?’ but I’m fine with it. I think! (laughs)
CJ: So you went from Digital Playground to Wicked. Why did you make the change?
Riley: Digital was bought out by Mindgeek and they started firing everyone and got rid of their contract girls. So I stayed, doing nothing for a little while, and then was talking to Axel Braun. I didn’t want to start shooting gonzo. I still wanted to be a contract girl. So I went with him and I was with him for maybe four years.
CJ: Now you’re a gonzo girl with no contract. Is it better being a free agent or do you miss the contract?
Riley: No, I don’t miss having a contract. I feel I’m much more successful. Doing gonzo, I make a lot more money plus I can do whatever I want. But at that stage in my life, I don’t think I was ready to do gonzo. I think everything played out for me what was best for me at the best time. But right now, it’s definitely way better for me than it was before.
CJ: Both Digital and Wicked are almost vanilla and now you get to do hardcore.
Riley: Yeah, yeah, definitely. I remember going to AVN all the years with Digital and I would see the trailers from Mason and Evil Angel and think, ‘God, I want to do stuff like that! Cool, good porn!’ And with Wicked, it was all condoms! And they wanted me to do anal for Wicked. I said, ‘With a condom? Anal? CJ: How did you come up with your stage name?

Riley: Shoot content, watch TV, watch Netflix, I love working out, I love cooking. I like organizing. Hiking, I can’t wait to start hiking again.

Riley: I don’t watch a lot of movies but I binge watch TV shows.
CJ: What’s your favorites?
Riley: My attention span is terrible. I like Bojack Horseman and I’m deep into Ozark right now.
CJ: What’s your favorite food?
Riley: Cookie dough ice cream. I have to have one every night. (laughs)
