Ricky Greenwood Talks with Captain Jack
I had the chance to catch up with Ricky at the Adult Entertainment Expo in Vegas in January. Ricky has only been in the industry for a short time but already has some classic titles under his belt like Becoming Elsa, Talk Derby To Me, Confessions Of A Sinful Nun and it’s sequel which is dropping this week. We discuss his directing style, his influences and what the future holds.
Captain Jack: How did you get your start in porn?
Ricky Greenwood: I was working on a mainstream movie and got contacted. At the time, the position was for a Production Manager. My first experience with adult back in Montreal was very low budget, indie and I wasn’t making much money so I said, ‘I don’t think so but let me try.’ I really loved everything about it. Then I got asked to direct and I said if I can do what I want, sure.
CJ: Where do you come up with your storylines?
Ricky: I don’t write all of them now but I just do the porn I want to see. I think about a story that would be interesting to see and come up with it that way.
CJ: Do you have any influences as a director?
Ricky: Yes, it’s more from the Golden Age of Porn, I would say. My favorite movie is Beyond the Green Door so it’s that era. Also, you can’t tell from my style but I loved Emmanuelle and all those French erotic movies. I grew up in that time.
CJ: You have Confessions Of A Sinful Nun 2 coming out. Tell me about that one.
Ricky: The first one, I was a little bit scared because you put sex and religion together. I didn’t want to get slammed and didn’t know how people would react. So I made it safe. It was not the script I was planning to do. Also, when I wrote the story, I wrote it as a trilogy. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, so you have to do three of them. But we didn’t know if the first one would work so we kept it safe. We didn’t want to have it open ended, we wanted to see how successful it was. But then, with the success of the first one, I decided to go further with it. I kept considering the first story but went further with it. It’s more the way I pictured it originally.
CJ: Do you have any additions to the cast from the first one?
Ricky: Mona Wales, Charlotte Stokely and Nina Hartley are coming back. Serene Siren and Magdalene St. Michaels are there. You also add Lena Paul, Cassidy Banks and Kenna James. Basically, at the end of the first one, Mona was sent to another convent. This story starts where Mona is at the other convent and you follow her journey. Magdalene will be the Mother Superior of that convent and Serene will be like Mona was in the first one. Magdalene is a mean one. She doesn’t allow sexuality between nuns and she doesn’t want her convent to become bad. She puts nuns in a jail at night and beat them up so they go on a straight path. And Serene doesn’t approve of that. She thinks if you treat them with kindness, they will find themselves on the right path.
CJ: Were you a reluctant Catholic school kid like I was in order to write something like this?
Ricky: No. My grandfather was a Catholic and he taught me some stuff. In Montreal, church was very strong in the 60s and 70s, we did bad shit to French people too so we kind of pushed them away. I grew up with that, and that’s the style of movie that always fascinated me. In the 70s, they made Nunsploitation movies, Joe D’Amato, Ken Russell… that’s my favorite genre of all-time. I watched all of them.
CJ: What I liked about the first one is that the storyline made the lesbian sex natural. It wasn’t forced at all.
Ricky: Same thing in the new one.
CJ: You have movies that have deep meanings in them. That’s unusual for porn.
Ricky: Yes, I try to. It’s not all of them because now I’m full time with Mile High. I’m doing the repeating series like Girls Kissing Girls. I try to keep my style and have nice stories and everything but they don’t always mean something. One’s coming out in March called A Woman Promise. It’s with Ivy Wolfe. She’s caught having sex with a woman and her mom sends her to a place where they can straighten her up. A lot of my stories talk about accepting others. It’s not your choice. If they decide to live their life like that, it’s their decision. I started directing Transsensual and that’s also in that vain.
